General requirements and Courses
In order to graduate with a CCS mathematics degree, the students will need to satisfy the following requirements:- General
requirements: Eight courses outside of Physics

- Mathematics courses. For details visit this link.
- Research
Portfolio; This
portfolio should contain an essay explaining the
different research experiences the student participated
in, what they learned through those experiences, and how
they have influenced their career path. This essay
should be complemented with evidence of the research
experiences: papers, research reports, posters, slides
of talks, videos, etc. Research experiences in the
context of industry are acceptable.
The research portfolio should be approved first by the academic advisor of the student and then by the CCS steering math committee. These materials need to be submitted for revision by this committee by the eighth week of the quarter in which the student graduates.
This requirement is waived to those students who decide to pursue the Masters program in mathematics or those who do research in another (science) department.
In the past, most students chose to do a senior thesis to comply with the research requirement. Here is a sample of Senior Theses written by our students in the past.
- Participation in Summer Research Programs and a semester abroad are strongly encouraged.
